Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project is a proposed storage type project located in Central/ Western Development Region on the Budhi Gandaki River of Nepal (Gorkha and Dhading districts). It would allow both alleviating the country's energy deficit and decreasing its reliance on fossil fuels. TRACTEBEL recommends upgrading the installed capacity from 600 MW (considered in previous studies) to 1200 MW so as to make maximum utilization of the potential of the site. The selected layout includes a 263 m high double arched dam, underground power waterways, an open air power plant equipped with 6 off 200 MW Francis turbines and two 400 kV transmission lines.

The project includes:

  • Doubled arch dam,
  • Underground waterways
  • An open air power plant with a 1200 MW installed capacity,
  • 400 kV Transmission lines
