The Challenge

The Transco CLSG project was born from a historic treaty signed by four countries—Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea—and ratified by their respective parliaments. The objective was to establish a unified power transmission infrastructure that would enhance regional energy integration and support electrification, particularly in underserved rural areas.

The Solution

Tractebel played a key role as Owner’s Engineer, providing comprehensive technical and managerial support throughout the project lifecycle. Our services included design review, construction supervision, project management, assistance during commissioning, and support throughout the guarantee period. This ensured that the infrastructure met international standards and was delivered efficiently and reliably.

The Impact

The CLSG transmission network is a transformative step toward expanding reliable electricity access across all four participating countries, creating a 225kV high‑voltage backbone that strengthens national grids and supports large‑scale power exchanges. Financed by 4 multi-lateral development institutions and implemented by national utility companies, the project is helping to bring reliable electricity to remote communities—fostering economic development, improving quality of life, and strengthening regional cooperation.
